Peter connects Noah's flood of water with the final flood of fire as consequences of extreme implacable and continuous evil. As the door of the ark was open for people to enter for 120 years of warning, so Christ's wings of refuge from the flood of fire are still open. Mercifully, the invitation and warning are still sounding to enter and be saved.
